To this end, graduate students taking this course are required to write a review paper on an approved topic. This term paper will be worth 100 points. Graduate Student grades will be based on a 580 point scale. The paper is expected to be: --on an approved topic appropriate to the course content. Historical or methodological reviews, for example, are as acceptable as reviews of theories of the etiology or treatment of a disorder are. Topics must be submitted for approval by Tuesday, May 30. --based on the primary empirical and theoretical research literature. The paper must review the scientific psychological literature, although additional literatures (e.g., educational, criminal justice) may be reviewed in addition to psychological literature, as appropriate to the topic. Summaries of secondary sources, like textbooks, are unacceptable, as are "pop" psychology books and newpaper/mass media reports, except as citations in support of propositions that a phenomenon has recieved such attention. --in American Psychological Association Format (double-spaced, one-inch margins, short title, abstract, etc.) See The Publication Manual of the APA (5th Ed.), especially the sample review paper, for details. --about 15-20 pages long, although shorter papers will be accepted. The most important factor determining length will be the breadth of the topic and the depth in which it is covered. --completed on or before June 30, 2006. No intermediate deadlines (e.g., for choosing a topic, having an outline, etc.) are set. I am available for consultation at any stage of the process. Papers will be graded mostly on content, but attention will be paid to format and writing style. http://www.cas.ilstu.edu/psychology/catanzar/Psy350Assign/Review_paper.html |
