Department of Geography and Geology

  • GEOMAP, the Department's new center for Cartography, GIS, and Spatial Analysis was developed in 2007.

  • In 2007, the first two Louis Miglio Scholars were selected.  Geography Teacher Education major Jared Bruening and Earth and Space Science Education major Jamie Esler were the recipients.

  • Glacial Deposits, our annual Departmental yearbook celebrated its 35th issue in 2007.

  • The Department enjoyed its tenth year of funding from the U.S. Geological Survey EDMAP program.  This program supports geologic mapping efforts by our graduate and undergraduate students. The $100,000 in support that we have received has benefited more than 20 students and resulted in the publication of 15 geologic maps at the Illinois State Geological Survey.

  • Our capstone field geology course celebrated its 35th consecutive year in 2007, making it one of the longest continually running field course in the nation.

  • In 2005-2006, Dr. David Malone was selected as Outstanding University Teacher.

  • Dr. Elizabeth King won both the Research and Teaching Initiative Awards in 2005 and 2006, respective.

  • In 2006, the Department won the CAS Fundraising Award.
