Department of Economics

  • The Department of Economics has an international reputation with three faculty members ranked among the 400 most prolific economists worldwide on the basis of the number of publications from 1990 to 2000 in a study compiled at the European Centre for Advanced Research in Economics and Statistics.
  • The Department of Economics was ranked 5th in the nation with respect to the number of publications in the Journal of Economic Education with such other schools in the top ten as Vanderbilt University, Purdue University, Indiana University, University of Wisconsin at Madison, and Stanford University.
  • The Department of Economics prides itself on the policy relevance of its interdisciplinary work through the Institute for Regulatory Policy Studies and the Stevenson Center for Community Economic Development.
  • The Department of Economics embraces an international perspective with collaborative agreements with several universities and institutes abroad with several of the faculty serving as research fellows and scholars and international scholars from around the world visiting the Department.
  • The Department of Economics has over a 90 percent job placement rate for its undergraduate majors. Graduates of our master’s program have been quite successful in securing positions in industry, government agencies, and doctoral programs across the country.
  • Over the past few years, the Department of Economics has the distinction of an undergraduate major receiving the prestigious award of Bone Scholar, the highest academic honor bestowed by the University to undergraduates.
