Department of Chemistry

  • Chemical & Engineering News reported in 2006 that the Department of Chemistry placed 13th among producers (nation wide) of BS chemistry graduates with degrees certified by the American Chemical society and placed 23rd among producers of MS graduates.

  • Professor Craig C. McLauchlan, has received the prestigious CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation, the third recipient in the department to date. These are very special and select grants that are meant to propel the academic careers of some of this country's best teacher-scholars, and thus, both research potential and educational contributions are important. The NSF award to Craig and to the prior recipients in the department (Professors Szczepura and Ferrence) highlights the mission and tradition of chemistry at ISU, to provide first-rate instruction from faculty who are generating the new knowledge in their field through cutting-edge investigations with their students.

  • Professor Cheryl Stevenson was named the 2007 recipient of the American Chemical Society’s Award for Outstanding Researcher at an Undergraduate Institution. The award highlights both Stevenson's career contributions in science and the outstanding research opportunities and accomplishments of our undergraduate chemistry majors.

  • The Department’s faculty hold 27 active research grants (distributed among 13 faculty members). The total dollar amount of these grants is $2,297.878.
